Setting Masters – Product Specifications

Each setting master includes position control features for both vertical and horizontal adjustments, making these gages versatile and user friendly. Hand wheel drives with locks on the vertical stages provide for setting stage heights. Manually slide the carriage for coarse horizontal positioning with lock and high resolution knob for final precision adjustments.

Setting Master Air Bearing Carriage

A high resolution optical linear encoder with absolute position feature maintains its location throughout the gage length. This eliminates the need for the operator to have to draw the carriage back to the start to zero off a reference point, speeding up the setup process.

The touch screen digital readout (DRO) displays distance in micro-inch (sub-micron) resolution and travels with the moving stage for easy access and viewing. A single touch toggles between English (SAE) and metric units, as well as preprogrammed ID and OD offsets.

APPLICATIONS

Setting measurement masters for multiple work cell and production floor use where the parts are too large to bring to a measurement instrument; laser interferometer measurements.

ACCURACY

As with any distance measuring device, accuracy is directly affected by variations in the surrounding temperature.  The setting master software allows you to create a table of corrective offsets in order to gain the highest level of accuracy possible and compensate for inherent errors in the linear encoder, air bearing slide ways, and temperature effects.  This compensation is only necessary and practical if your facility has the highest level of temperature and vibration control.

Standard accuracy: +/- 0.00016″ (+/- 4 µm) at 68°F. For non-temperature controlled facilities, deviations from 68°F will change this accuracy by 0.0005″/°F over full travel for model SMG2000 and 0.001″/°F for model SMG3810.

Compensated accuracy: +/- 0.0001″ (+/- 2.5 µm). This accuracy is only practical when the gage is installed in a temperature controlled environment of +/-0.1 °F, and is achieved by corrective mapping after the system has been allowed to stabilize in the temperature controlled environment.
